A beautiful set of two Blanc de Chine jardinières and plum trees. The two jardinières have a baluster shape. The plume (or prune) trees are with blossom and have each two birds on a branch. In ancient Chinese philosophy the blossom of these trees symbolizes the spring. The transition from the winter to spring stands for brining warmth and fruitfulness. The plum blossom's significance is often depicted in Chinese art, poetry, and literature as a powerful symbol of resilience and the ability to flourish despite adversity. The plum tree is also part of the ‘Three Friends of Winter’: the pine, bamboo and plum. These are admired symbols in Chinese culture and are therefore often displayed in Chinese art. More commonly similar Blanc de Chine pieces are found in smaller versions, making this set even more impressive.
