Stoves tiles make up a large group of architectural 16th, 17th and 18th ceramics. Beside normal subjects such as persons, landscapes or flowers special tiles were used to decorate homes. Exotic animals, sea creatures and mythological and biblical scenes were in favor to depicted on tiles and enriched the European wealthy places.
This relatively large tile depicts a leopard and her pup while the corners are filled with motifs of Venus shells. The leopard symbolizes combativeness and decisiveness.
Condition: the tile has minor visible restorations; fillings in some chips.
