On the other side of the lid is an image of the Dutch virgin with lion and liberty hat. on a stick. On the bottom of the box are the coats of arms of the Seven Provinces engraved. The sides of the box are provided with a continuous hunting scene.

On 4 May 1747, the States General of the Netherlands appointed Willem as Stadtholder of all seven United Provinces of the Netherlands and made this office hereditary for the first time.
Willem succeeded his father as stadtholder of Friesland and also, under the regency of his mother Marie Louise van Hessen-Kassel until 1731, as stadtholder of Groningen. In 1722 he was elected stadtholder of Gelre. This was partly due to Marie Louise. The four other provinces of the Dutch Republic: Holland, Zeeland, Utrecht and Overijssel had decided in 1702 not to appoint a stadtholder after the death of stadtholder William III, a period known as the Second Stadtholderless Period. In 1747 these four provinces also accepted William as stadtholder after continuing unrest.
